In 2008, as fracking started to tear into the Marcellus Shale, the D&H acquired – after a short bidding war – 80% of the Wellsboro & Corning Railroad, so that they could take advantage of the rapidly increasing need to ship in fracking sand. The original WCOR EMDs were sold and 4 DL28 roadswitchers were brought in to power the railroad, which they did until the fall of 2024, when it got caught up in the massive engineering work that was the CTRC project and had wire strung over it at about the same time as the CTRC finished their international tunnel under the St Clair.
