The history of the Brazilian railroad preservation is plagued by bad luck. This loco (first numbered by C.P. as #553, then renumbered to #653 and by FEPASA to #7654) was bought in the early eighties by VIGESA, an E.M.D./G.M. Brazilian licensee, to perform tests. Unfortunately VIGESA give up on locomotive manufacturing in the early nineties. In January 1995 it was in bad shape, as this photo by Kelso Médici shows.
