One more example of bad luck. During the eighties SOMA, a Brazilian manufacturer of railroad equipment, purchased, for preservation purposes, two locomotives that formerly belonged to Companhia Paulista: an ALCO PA-2 diesel-electric machine and a Metropolitan-Vickers box electric locomotive. Unfortunately, this company went bankrupt before any work could be done on the locomotives. This photo shows, in the foreground, the sad condition of the PA-2 locomotive nowadays. The Metropolitan-Vickers unit can be seen at the background; this Album has a better photo of this machine. Photo shot by Fernando Schimidt, from Campinas SP, in September 28, 2000.

Unfortunately the fate of this locomotive was even sadder after the day this photo was taken: in January 2004 it was cut into pieces and used as decoration in a bar at the Fernão Dias highway, near the city of Extrema (MG).
