Francisco Paes Leme de Monlevade was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1860. He begin to work at Companhia Paulista in 1897. Certainly the main pioneer of railroad electrification, he inaugurated in 1922 the first heavy traffic electrified railroad line, the segment Jundiaí-Campinas of Companhia Paulista. He was also the Secretary of Transportation of the São Paulo state and director of E.F. Sorocabana after his retirement from Companhia Paulista. In 1931 he was a member of the Comissão do Plano Geral de Viação ("Commission of the General Plan of Transportation"). He died in 1944 at Rio de Janeiro.
