This is the building of Duartina electric substation of Companhia Paulista - which sadly never came into operation. During the early sixties Companhia Paulista management decided to electrify the railroad segment between Cabrália Paulista and Tupã. In 1965 all material needed for this project was available, including this substation. But then a strange twist of fate happened. Companhia Paulista management changed its plans (!) and a new railroad line between Bauru and Garça was built and inaugurated in 1976 - without electrification. So the building for Duartina electric substation suddenly became useless, as the old railroad line that passed in Duartina was then removed. This is only another brick in the grave of the Brazilian railroads. Photo shot by Ricardo Frontera, from Bauru SP, in January 2001.
