A panoramic view of the Corcovado hill with the just inaugurated monument of the Cristo Redentor. One can see a funicular system between the terminal station of E.F. Corcovado and the statue. It was used to transport materials during the construction of the monument but, apparently, it was also used to transport people when the works were finished. However, this funicular was dismantled some time after and then people had to go by foot between the station and the statue, a journey that includes some pairs of stairways. Only in 2002 a system of elevators and rolling stairways were inaugurated, making easy the life of the elderly tourists who want to see the monument.
